I. The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)

The aim of the PGPM at IWSB is to create entrepreneurial leaders for the world. It aims to instill the following attributes into its students:

  • Self discipline
  • Self reliance and confidence
  • Value based identity
  • Scientific temper
  • Ownership of responsibility
  • Spirit of cooperation
  • Acknowledgement of manager-citizen role in society

The PGPM design takes into account the following requirements that characterize management education:

  1. The knowledge acquired in the Programme has to be applied in managing organizational, business, social and personal problems.
  2. The application of knowledge requires multi-disciplinary approach to study with an emphasis on integration of various areas of study and internalization of knowledge to be able to apply it at work and life.

These requirements have had implications for the curriculum design, teaching methodology and student-teacher relationship at IWSB. In the context of IWSB’s concern for evolving management practices based on Indian ethos and values, the programme will also continually incorporate relevant outputs from research.

Programme Outcome

It is expected that on completion of the two-year programme the students will demonstrate:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge base in functional/technical areas
  2. Familiarity with Indian and global social issues
  3. Sound problem solving and decision making skills using data and analysis
  4. Entrepreneurial leadership
  5. Global perspective
  6. High degree of ethics, personal values and convictions arising out of these
  7. Humanist approach to dealing with situations
  8. Ability to adapt to diversity
  9. Ability to understand people and behaviour, and to work in groups
  10. Negotiating skills

PGP- First Year

Pre-term

The PGPM in the first year will start with a 2-week long Pre-term module in June. Though there are no formal credits, it is a mandatory part of the PGP. The Pre-term has sessions on the fundamentals of Quantitative Methods, Statistics, Accounting and Economics.

  • All PGP students will have to undergo all core courses in the first year which will lead to 46 credits.
  • For a PGP student to continue his/her second year of the programme, he/she will have to complete all the courses

II. Dual-course Twinning Programme (MBA)

The aim of the MBA at IWSB is to create effective business managers for the corporate world. It aims to instill the following attributes into its students:

  • Managerial skills
  • Communication skills
  • Self discipline
  • Self reliance and confidence
  • Ownership of responsibility
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Contribute to society

The MBA design takes into account the following requirements that meet the needs of business organizations:

  1. The knowledge acquired in the course has to be applied in managing organizational and business problems.
  2. Formal degree from a UGC recognized Central University (Pondicherry University).

These requirements have had implications for the curriculum design, teaching methodology and student-teacher relationship at IWSB. In the context of IWSB’s concern for evolving management practices based on Indian organizations, it draws heavily on inputs from captains of the Indian industry.

Programme Outcome

It is expected that on completion of the two-year programme the students will demonstrate:

  1. Familiarity with business issues faced by Indian organizations
  2. Comprehensive knowledge base in functional/technical areas
  3. Negotiating skills
  4. Ability to individually contribute at the front-line of a business organization.
  5. Sound problem solving and decision making skills using data and analysis
  6. High degree of ethics, personal values and convictions arising out of these
  7. Ability to understand people and behaviour, and to work in groups
  8. Understanding the needs of co-workers, suppliers, customers and other stakeholder of the organization
  9. Optimization of available resources to achieve goals set by the organization.

MBA- First Year

  • The programme is delivered in a semester system with the first semester in the year starting in the last week of July and ending in December last week, while the second semester starts in the second week of January and ends in mid-May.
  • All MBA students have t o undergo a minimum of 6 weeks of summer internship in a business organization
  • All MBA students will have to undergo all ten (10) core courses in the first year.
  • For a MBA student to continue his/her second year of the programme, he/she will have to complete all the courses and summer internship.
